get off of tram and walk WEST on 8th street for a block and you will see Japanese Consulate on the left

Hosted By: Save Japan Dolphins and Oceanic Defense

A world-wide peaceful and lawful protest of the annual dolphin slaughter in Japan, as depicted in the Academy Awardwinning documentary The Cove and the Animal Planet series Blood Dolphins.  The Japanese government issues 23,000 permits annually to coastal communities to kill dolphins of several species.  A few are sold, at great profit, to aquariums and swim-with-dolphins programs around the world.  The captive dolphin industry subsidizes the slaughter.  The majority of the pod are then slaughtered for meat.  But the meat is contaminated with huge amounts of mercury and other pollutants, exceeding the Japanese government’s own health limits.  This is a human rights issue as much as an animal welfare issue.

Demonstrations will be going on throughout the world in front of Japanese embassies and consulates on October 14th.  Please join your fellow environmentalists and animal activists in protesting the hunts and urging Japan to switch to more sustainable and benign methods of profit, such as eco-tourism and dolphin-watching cruises (ironically becoming more popular in Japan every year).

Please join us in protesting the dolphin slaughter.  For more information on the issue, you can go to our website:

It’s saddens me to think of all of the animals in captivity. They are subjected to living in much smaller spaces than they need. It’s cruel & should be stopped! It’s sick to see the Japanese harpoon these innocent Whales & then turn around & say it’s for scientific research. Research REALLY? Is their research to see how many Whales they can kill? The killing & brutal conditions of the captive animals has to stop. Let them be free in a world of their own; not ours!!

It is time to stop this now! This is a crime to massacre animals and also to steel them their freedom. The way dolphins and whales are killed is totally barbaric and inhuman!!!
Why are those nations so ignorant?? Why don’t we have a protection/ law that works really allover the world against such tortures?

By the way, Dolphins often die after some months and they are totally depressed in capture, this is scientifically proved. When do the scientifics finally help to make an end and to support us????!!!
We neither need Zoo or Circus with animals in the 21th century! STOP NOW! It’s cruel and barbaric!

I recently watched the movie “The Cove” and it was so upsetting to know that these atrocities occur in 2010. I live near Orlando, Florida where there is a dolphinarium known as “Discovery Cove” (ironic huh?) anyways for as long as it has been opened which is a few years now my family never managed to make it for a visit. Well needless to say they will never see a penny of mine, and it makes me wonder if anyone has ever considered a friendly meeting, get together of sorts w/ signs of how they may have purchased their sea creatures? Also aren’t they owned by Sea World?

Kristen Edwards @ 4:22 pm #

I was horrified when I recently watched “The Cove” on Animal Planet. The movie changed my life. I would like to do more than sign petitions and send money (both of which I have already done). I live in San Francisco; are there any protests planned here in front of the Japanese consulate?

I’m available and would like to help!
